Torres future not tied to Benitez

There has been a lot of talk about player power at Anfield, and the future of Fernando Torres is once again in the spotlight with Rafa Benitez on the verge of leaving the club.

However, it is one hundred per-cent clear that the future of Fernando Torres at Anfield is not linked to that of Rafa Benitez. In other words, the manager leaving will not influence whether or not Torres stays.

Torres is more concerned with the overall direction that Liverpool FC is heading. He believes that Rafa is a good coach, but the player has distanced himself from much of what has been discussed about player unrest etc. Torres has doubts about his own future at Anfield and that is linked, not to Benitez, but to the future of the club itself (ownership, direction, funding etc).

Manchester City are keen, but I suspect that no matter the offer, Torres would turn them down. There is also interest from Juventus and Inter Milan – but again, Torres would probably say no. However, if Chelsea were to make a serious offer, that might prove to be a different story.

Also, with elections due at the Camp Nou this month, the favourite for the Barcelona presidency, Sandro Rosell, may very well make a move for Torres if Ibrahimovic is sold and a deal for Cesc Fabregas cannot be agreed with Arsenal.

However, as it stands right now, Fernando Torres is most likely to remain at Anfield, but he is desperately hoping that Steven Gerrard does not leave.
